Vernal fog, Berkeley Hills, California
The Berkeley Hills, which run for many miles along the eastern side of San Francisco Bay, were originally dubbed by a Spanish explorer looking from the current site of San Francisco "la Sierra de la Contra Costa" — the sierra (i.e. mountain range) of the opposite coast. Though they are now thoroughly infested by the human enterprise, a good measure of beauty remains. This exceptional day, at the peak of our spring bloom (in mid-February) featured dense, calm fog which lasted for many hours after sunrise and got me out hunting. Three pictures worthy of inclusion here were the result, this one being my favorite.
